Dichroic glass beads have a thin film of metal fused to the surface of the glass, resulting in a surface that has a metallic sheen that changes between multiple colours when viewed at different angles or in different lighting. This technique was originally developed by NASA for use in satellite mirrors in the early 1990s. Dichroic glass beads stand out due to their vibrant colour and oily iridescence.
